In 2006, the Madison 56ers assembled Madison's first major adult amateur team since the '90s. The team plays in the National Premier Soccer League and is coached by Jim Launder.

The Princeton 56ers won the NPSL Midwest Division for the second straight year.

TWO 56ERS SELECTED TO PLAY

On August 11, 2007, the NPSL Select Team played the MLS Chivas USA in Sacramento, California. This exhibition game matched some of the best amateur players in the National Premier Soccer League against the Major League Soccer professionals of Chivas USA.
Two Madison 56ers from the 2007 Midwest Champions, the Madison Princeton-56ers, were selected to the NPSL Select Team. They were: Center Back, Reed Cooper and Midfielder, Brad Ring. The NPSL Select Team coach, Ron Preble, from the 2006 NPSL Champions, the Sacramento Knights, stated after the game that the two Madison players definitely made a difference on the field as the NPSL matched-up well, especially in the second half, against the Chivas professionals.

While the final score was 5 to 1 for Chivas USA, that result is misleading as the game on the field was much closer and only great goalkeeping from Chivas keep the NPSL Stars from scoring another two or three goals.

This fall Reef Cooper will be a Senior starter for West Virginia and Brad Ring will be a Junior starter for the University of Indiana. We wish them both a great college season.
