NATIONAL OPEN CUP DRAW
The Madison Princeton-56ers soccer team competing in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) announces its draw for the semi-final round of the United States Amateur Soccer Association (USASA) Region 2 play-off in the United State Soccer Federation (USSF) National Open Cup competition on Saturday, May 17. The Madison Princeton-56ers will again be away against the RWB Adria of Chicago, IL, the 2008 Illinois State National Open Cup Champions. The Madison Princeton-56ers will be representing the Midwest Region of the NPSL, as the defending NPSL Midwest Region Champions. The game time and field location are TBD.
RWB Adria advanced to the Region 2 Semi-Final by virtue of a 6 to 5 penalty kick shoot-out win over the Carpathia Kickers of Michigan, after 120 minutes of scoreless play. The Madison Princeton-56ers who had traveled to Bloomington, Indiana for their first round game, were awarded a forfeit win when the Bloomington Cutters were unable to field a legal team due to a lack of valid player passes.
The Madison Princeton-56ers had previously played against RWB Adria in the Region 2 Open Cup. On July 7,1991 they met in the Region 2 Open Cup final at Warner Park. That game ended in a 3 to 3 tie. After 30 minutes of overtime the score was 4 to 4. RWB Adria eventually prevailed on penalty kicks, 4 to 3, to win the 1991 Region 2 U.S. Open Cup Championship.
